“Car Song” by Spank Rock

If you ever wondered what Little Richard would look like if he was a rapper, here you are. Spank Rock has put out some amazing stuff, but might be most recognized from his appearance on Santigold’s “Shove It”. Here she’s returning the favor, but don’t get it twisted, all the heavy lifting in “Car Song” is done by Spank Rock.

My notes:

- Beat is fresh, son!

- This video oddly has more than one allusion to Erasure’s “Blue Savannah”, which is the strangest music video in the world and, inexplicably, the video I’ve watched more than any other music video.

- Homie raps about Hasids and Cornel West in the same verse!

- Whatever Santigold is doing in this video is totally creepy, and totally working.

- Oh, yeah. Don’t watch this at work.

- I swear there is a special edge to the creative talent that comes out of Baltimore. Must be that Old Bay Seasoning.
